Classes & Clubs

Our classroom is large, bright and spacious enough for everyone to have their own sewing space. A power lift makes getting your heavy sewing equipment to the work area a snap.

February 2012

February 23, March 5, March 12 and March 19: EQ7Join EQ 7 Wizard Anita Peluso for four 3-hour sessions in learning EQ 7.  EQ 7 is a quilt and quilt block software program that allows you to design your own quilt blocks and “see” your quilt on your computer screen before you actually make a cut on your fabric! You can import thumbnail pictures of thousands of fabrics so you can see exactly what your quilt will look like. You can move “fabric” from one place to another to see what layout you like best.  EQ 7 will give you rotary cutting instructions and fabric requirements for your quilt.  You’ll learn how to scan fabrics, import and export to and from various files and how to create appliqué motifs in the Drawing Worktable in the program.

EQ 7 is a very powerful design program and is used by most pattern designers. It’s also used by us amateur quilters who want to create and see what our own design will look like.  Design your own block or build a quilt right on your computer, then you can sew the real thing when you’re satisfied with how it’s going to look!

You must have EQ 7 installed on your computer; if you need help with that, please call or email John to make arrangements for him to install the program onto your laptop before class.  He’ll do that for free for you.

Class schedule:

Thursday Feb. 23 11am - 2pm – Class 1 – Intro: The basics to getting started

Monday Mar. 5 11am - 2pm – Class 2 – Quilt Design: Setting up a quilt design and printing templates, rotary cutting instructions and yardage requirements

Monday Mar. 12 11am - 2pm – Class 3 – Common Questions and the Custom Set Quilt: Scanning fabric, importing, exporting, quilt labels and more

Monday Mar. 19 11am - 2pm – Class 4 – Drawing: Creating blocks and appliqué motifs in the Drawing Worktable.

There will be assignments after each class to help you use what you learned in each session.

Supply List:  laptop computer with EQ 7 installed and a pencil to take notes.  Anita has fabulous hand outs for you to take notes on.  Anita’s computer screen will be projected onto a giant screen in our classroom so you’ll be able to see what she’s doing in real time.

March 2012

March 24 and 31: In the New Classroom The Tuffet - Did you ever wonder just exactly what Little Miss Muffet sat on? A tuffet? Really? Yep, we’re making tuffets for fun and because they’re just too dang cute.A tuffet is a really low seat; a footstool; a hassock. Our tuffets are made from 22” strips of fabric (jelly roll strips work great!) and you can make them scrappy, matchy-matchy, wild and zany, soft and demure…whatever you want for wherever you’re going to put it.

This is a 2-session class; Saturdays March 24 and 31- 1:30pm - 5:00pm. The first class you’ll sew your tuffet top together (and finish at home if necessary) and we’ll spend the second class putting them all together. We’ve got the finishing kits available for purchase if you want us to provide you with all the “innards” for your tuffet. You’ll end up with a great piece of furniture that’s SO fun to make!

Class is $75 (includes pattern) and the finishing kit is $60.You need to have strips of fabric for the tuffet top, 1 ½ yards of muslin, a sheet of freezer paper and basic sewing supplies.Your tuffet also wants 4 feet; we will have those available for purchase on the night of class or you can bring your own (Lowe’s and Home Depot have unfinished wooden feet; you can stain or paint your feet in any fashion).

Sign up now and then decide on your fabric….it’s a hard decision because there are so many choices!

Clubs

Prairie Women's Sewing Circle with Lisa Isaacs

You're invited to join a unique monthly club that will take you on a journey back in time.  Gather together as the Prairie Women did and hear anecdotal stories about their quilt making--what daily life was like for those who traveled by wagon train on the Oregon Trail--to the lives of quilters during the Civil War--and the years of women's suffrage and equal rights movements.  Not only will you learn how our quilting ancestors created quilts by "making do" with what they had, you will be invited to do so yourself!

At each monthly gathering of the Prairie Women's Sewing Circle, you will receive a small reproduction quilt project pattern that will allow you the option to share in the unique 'make do' quilting experience with fellow club members.  You're invited to bring your machine and work on the monthly projects too!  Monthly patterns, extra projects and other surprises will be offered exclusively to PWSC club members only.  Light refreshments will also be served.

Sign up today and join the next gathering of the Prairie Women's Sewing Circle and journey through the threads of time with us!

Meetings are on the first Thursday of each month from 10am-12:30pm

The Wild Rosies with Robbie

This is a fun group who don't take ourselves too seriously; we meet on the first Tuesday of each month to share stories, do show and tell, play the occasional game of fat quarter bingo, sometimes eat snacks, have door prize drawings, check out new goodies in the shop and oh yes...we do make a quilt throughout the year! The 2009 Rosies made a floral sampler.  The 2010 Rosies are making a batik quilt in blues and greens or browns and golds using Thangles.  The 2011 project is a red, white and blue pinwheel quilt using charm squares in a pattern designed by Karen White. You'll receive charm squares from us each month and add your own 5" squares to complete each block.  I can't wait to see how this one will turn out!

Join us as we start another Wild Rosie adventure in January.  Our first meeting of the new year is Tuesday January 4 at 1pm.  The cost is $1 per month if you come to the meeting or $3 if you miss the meeting. Click here to register for this class

We're making a patriotic themed quilt this year with country red, blues and creams with start blocks.

*We try to keep our Clubs on a fixed schedule each month, but there are occasions when a meeting time changes due to the retreat schedule. We give Club attendees as much notice as possible, usually a couple of months, when their Club date changes.
